Stargazing is my Substance

By: Martin (14) (Salt Lake)

One thing that I like to do is going out at night and looking at stars. Since last winter, I have been memorizing all the bright stars and constellations, and I enjoy knowing that it will always be there. However, all the light from cities spills out into the sky and blots out the stars. This is called light pollution. Because of that, the sky where I live is nearly invisible. Around 1/3 of people can no longer see the Milky Way from where they live. I think that light pollution is a problem that should be addressed, because people no longer consider the fact that the night sky is something to be cherished.
