My Substance is Reading
By Jade (Sunset), age 16
Although I’m dyslexic, I’ve developed a deep love for reading and writing. Getting lost in a story is like being in a whole different world. In a good book, you feel like you’re going through everything the characters are going through, too. It’s a very special feeling; anyone who doesn’t enjoy reading is missing out on all of the magic of a good book.
That’s why, when I’m not reading or writing, I’m chasing my passion for cheerleading: Performing or cheering is like being in a whole new state of mind. I’ve been cheerleading since I was five years old, and now I’m cheering for my high school team. I love practicing cheers, learning dances, and being a flyer—it’s a magical feeling like no other.
